Tim McWilliams is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist and singer, dedicated to the diverse roots music traditions of Western North Carolina. In 2021, Tim received an “In These Mountains” Apprenticeship grant from the North Carolina Arts Council to study under the renowned Madison County musician, Josh Goforth. Under Goforth’s mentorship, Tim studied the guitar and banjo styles of Madison and Buncombe Counties in depth, focusing on the music of Byard Ray, Tommy Hunter, the Freeman Family, Lee Wallin, Jerry Adams, Dale McCoy, and the Luke Smather’s String Band.
